15.34Xr15-34 During the past decade, many cigarettesmokers have attempted to quit. Unfortunately, nicotine is highly addictive. Smokers use a largenumber of different methods to help them quit. These include nicotine patches, hypnosis, and vari-ous forms of therapy. A researcher for the AddictionResearch Council wanted to determine why somepeople quit while others attempted to quit butfailed. He surveyed1,000 people who plannedto quit smoking. He determined their educa-tional level and whether they continued to smoke1 year later. Educational level was recorded in thefollowing way_1= Did not finish high school2= High school graduate3= University or college graduate4= Completed a postgraduate degree A continuing smoker was recorded as1; a quitterwas recorded as 2. Can we infer that the amountof education is a factor in determining whether asmoker will quit?
