Twilight Bey Character Analysis writing homework help

Paper is to be 3-4 typed pages (that is, no less than 3, no more than 4, so approximately 1,000 words), double spaced, with 1-inch margins, submitted as an MS Word documentand.PST. If you use any sources, that is, if you quote, paraphrase, or refer to any material from any source, including the one(s) assigned, you must cite your sources in proper MLA format and include a Works Cited page.

Paper Topics, choose either Character Analysis or Counterargument:

CHARACTER ANALYSIS: I’d like you to compose a character analysis of either one of the LAPD-related characters in Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 if you’ve read ahead OR one of the detectives or their superiors in Ghettoside. Choose a character from either text whom you would like to interrogate further and analyze. That is, in a paper of 3-4 pages, you will offer a close discussion of your sense of that character’s personality. Look carefully at what the character says and does, what the tone of his language is, and any other clues you can find to discover what makes that character tick. In a well argued presentation, discuss how the evidence you present adds up to the conclusion you have reached about that character’s character. That conclusion is your thesis statement.

What is especially important in this paper is for you to demonstrate your ability to read through the material and infer what is said indirectly. Critical thinking and analysis is about the ability to see beyond the surface of things to the implied message. This paper, therefore, asks that you deduce something about a character and then describe the basis of your deduction by discussing carefully selected portions of the text that gave you your insights. Your deduction, again, will be your thesis statement.

COUNTERARGUMENT: Revisit your first paper and your response to Rankine’s essay, “The Condition of Black Life is One of Mourning” and write a new paper that presents the counterargument to your first paper’s thesis. That is, if your original paper agreed with Rankine’s position, that the bodies of murdered African Americans should be shown, now write from the opposite position, that the bodies should not be made public. Support your assertions with measure and care, just as if you were arguing for a position with which you easily agreed. Do the necessary research to support your new position.

Arguing against yourself isn’t as easy as it looks, not if you are going to present the counterargument with respect. This is one fo the reasons the exercise is a good one. It is only when we’ve truly explored the opposition that we can begin to defeat it in a meaningful way. Make sure that you do this work with empathy and an analytical posture, just as you did with Paper One. As with any formal paper, avoid sarcasm at all costs.
