Methodology

4.1 Introduction – what am I going to explain in this chapter

The current chapter presents the process of developing the research methods needed to complete the test the hypothesis presented in the previous chapter.

The research philosophy and design are explained in Section 4.2, followed by the sampling procedures in Section 4.3 and measurement of variables in Section 4.6.The chapter will discuss in detail the various stages of developing the methodology. This includes a detailed discussion of the philosophical background of the research method chosen. In addition to this, the chapter describes the data collection strategy including selection of research instrumentation and sampling. The chapter closes with a discussion on the analysis tools that will be used to analyse the data collected. The research strategies, the research methods, the research approaches, the methods of data collection, the procedures of sample selection, the research processes, the types of data analysis, the ethical considerations and the limitations of the research are explained in this chapter. ….

4.2 Research Question and objective

There are total three main variables which are Job Resources, Work Engagement, and Turnover intention.

Autonomy, Supervisory Support and Career Development are dimensions of Job Resources

Vigour, Dedication and Absorption are dimensions of Work Engagement.

And turnover intention.

4.3 Research Philosophy and Design

Research Philosophy- explain that we choose positivist paradigm as we are testing theory and testing the relationship influence by pre-selected variable (JDR) and The research approach used for positivist’s philosophy is normally deductive approach, commonly used to statistical test the stated hypothesis.

Design- quantitative design is used as we have to rest relationship and qualitative is not chosen as this method not allowed us to test the relationship

4.4 Sampling and Sample procedure

4.4.1 Context and Population

Any population with internet access, over 18 years of age and engaged in any form of paid and unpaid job in any type of organisation can participate in this survey regardless of any country of residence. The participating population should also be able and willing to provide consent to be a part of study as participant and should be able to understand and empathise the questionnaire written in English. explain a bit more why working people were preferred. that gives some context.

4.4.2 Sample Selection

As the survey is based on questionnaires, it is necessary to decide who will fill up the questionnaires which is called a sampling. The sampling design refers to the method of collecting samples for the research. For data collection, I will be using non-probability sampling techniques for the research because of its convenience and inexpensiveness. The two non probability sampling which are convenience and snowball sampling will be used.

Convenience sampling technique is a technique that the researcher selects subjects who are readily accessible to the researcher to participate in the questionnaire. Snowball sampling technique, in other words, referral sampling is a method in which the first respondents refers the survey instrument to another potential respondents to complete the survey.

I will be using the internet based questionnaire. After getting the data from around 500 respondents using the above sampling techniques, the data will be downloaded from survey software to Excel Sheet. And for further data analysis, the data sheet in the Excel will be transferred to Mplus software for data analysis.

4.4.3 Respondent Selection (Please write this on your own words and explain more)

The population with internet access, over 18 years of age and engaged in any form of paid and unpaid job in any organisation can participate in this survey regardless of residing in any country. The questionnaires will be spread across different industry to increase the generalisation of the results. This survey is also easily available and approximately requires 30 minutes to complete this study. This survey will be conducted with the help of Survey Monkey. Survey Monkey is cloud-based software that provides valuable support in data collection through unpaid as well as paid customisable software. The email with the link of Survey Money containing questionnaire along with introductory page containing the brief details of primary and student researcher will be sent.

4.4.4 Response rate and sample profile

Total of 173 respondents participated the survey. majority of respondents who take part in survey were of age group from 20 to 49 years. Regarding education of level of respondents, the majority of respondents have completed their highest level of education and working full time hours. Most of the respondents in the survey worked in administrative sector whereas only few respondents worked in technology sector. Although most of the respondents were born in Nepal, the geographical region of employment were in Pacific region. Descriptive statistics are explained in the following section.

4.5 Data Collection – Data collected from the surveymonkey where respondents need to answer a set multiple choice questions. All Questionnaires are 7 point likert scale and for Emotional Ill-Health – 5 point likert scale

As it will be difficult to find and contact every respondent, mass survey technique will use. In this context, the best survey method will be internet-based survey technique. Set of questions to address the research objective will be wisely prepared. For every variables, 4 to 6 question will be prepared. Questions will be carefully selected from existing research or survey according to the purpose of this study. All question will be based on the Likert scale. Although Linkert Scale can use 4- or 7-point scale, this study will use 7 scales Linkert scale for all variables expect for emotional ill-health it has used 4 point likert scale. It will range from strongly disagree to strongly agree. Linkert is an orderly scale that allows the respondent to select an option that best matches their personal view. All the questions will be closed-end type and will be in the form of cross-sectional design. The total numbers of questions will be 116. This set of questions will also include general and categorical questions about as sex, age, academic qualification and country of resident. Indented sample size will be 200. Anyone with internet access can be respondent for this survey.

4.5 Survey Instrument – variable related to my selected variables

Out of whole model of JDR model, only four main variables are chosen for this study. Job Resources, Work Engagement, Emotional ill-health and Turnover intention are four main variables. Autonomy, Supervisory Support and Career Development are the dimension used to measure variable Job Resources. Vigour, Dedication and Absorption are dimensions used to measure Work Engagement. Since the survey is The details of questionnaires will be explained in next section.

4.7 Data Analysis- preliminary about clean up data and validity analysis regression analysis

After data are collected with the help of Survey Monkey, they will be downloaded in the hard drive as well as in cloud storage for additional safety against accidental loss of the data. Once data are stored in a safe location they will be transferred to SPSS data file. After data are in the SPSS, data are edited to make error-free. The error refers to the gap between the value retrieved from the collection process and the actual value of the population. An error can be a respondent error made by the respondent or non-respondent error made researcher.

Mplus will be used to test the result for hypothesis.
